Medical & Recreational Market

Now it is important to understand that the Cannabis industry is made up of two markets, medical patients and recreational patients which it serves simultaneously. The reason this distinction is important is because of the legal and health implications associated with cultivation, manufacturing and retail of these products, how they are made, and who they are sold to.

The regulations allow for the sale of THC products to recreational patients 21 years of age or older with a valid ID or passport; and are subject to purchasing limits per visit at any store which are;

  • 2 ounces of Flower

  • 16 grams of Concentrates

  • 800 milligrams of edibles (100mg/container)(10mg/serving)

  • 6 Clones

Additional restrictions may be enforced by retailers to ensure that medical patients are given priority to higher dosage products. Retailers are expected to keep at least 25% of Flower in total inventory allocated to medical sales only.

Medical Patients are typically given priority over recreational patients, and are not held to the same age and sales limits of their recreational counterparts. New Mexico Medical patients as young as 18 years of age may legally purchase Cannabis with a valid medical card and ID, and are allotted 425 units in a 90-day rolling period;

  • A unit is defined as,

    • For Flower one (1) unit is equal to one gram (1g)

    • For Edibles one (1) unit is equal to 200 milligrams (0.2g)

  • A 90-day rolling period means that any points spent today, would be subtracted from your total points today, and reappear in 90 days time.
