Breaking Down New Mexico's Latest Cannabis Recall: What You Need to Know
In a swift response to public health concerns, New Mexico's Cannabis Control Division (CCD) issued an urgent recall on November 25, 2024, targeting specific cannabis products manufactured by JBS Technologies NM, LLC, operating under the brand Stash House. The recall stems from multiple failed pesticide tests revealing unacceptable levels of Spinosyn, an unapproved pesticide.
Impact
Over 100 stores have been included on the recall list; amongst those most affected are chains Dreamz and Oasis.
Dreamz: 95 Batches
Oasis Cannabis Co. (OCC ABQ): 74 Batches
Rocky Mountain Cannabis: 23 Batches
Fields of Dreams: 18 Batches
Cookies: 16 Batches
The products, four SKUs total across two lines,
Drool 2g Blunts in strains Nightmare Cookies, Wedding Punch, Rainbow Dream, and Blue Dream
Stone Road 14g RYO Forbidden Star Fruit
Unapproved Pesticides Detected
The controversy began on October 11, 2024, when PB Laboratories flagged a product containing Spinosyn, prompting a series of investigations and retests. Initial assurances from JBS Technologies via a passing Certificate of Analysis (COA) were challenged by subsequent tests conducted by Rio Grande Analytics, which confirmed the presence of the pesticide. The issue escalated when a fourth round of testing also failed, leaving no doubt about contamination.
Compliance and Cleanup
The CCD has mandated the immediate removal and destruction of the affected products. JBS Technologies is required to:
Notify all impacted licensees and ensure they inform their customers.
Provide evidence of destruction of the contaminated batches.
Submit a comprehensive recall plan within 48 hours, including a list of remaining inventory and corrective measures.
Guidance on Destruction
According to local experts, either the manufacturer (JBS Technologies) or the retail stores can oversee the destruction of the recalled products. However, this process must adhere to CCD guidelines, which require thorough documentation and recording of the destruction process.
A dedicated section on proper recall and destruction protocols will soon be added to our site, providing detailed guidance for compliance. If any stores require assistance navigating this process, do not hesitate to reach out for support.
Stash House's Troubled History
This is not Stash House’s first issue with the CCD. Previously, the manufacturer faced scrutiny when undocumented cannabis oil was discovered at their premises. This latest recall amplifies concerns regarding their compliance and quality control practices. The results of this major recall to the companies standing with the CCD has yet to be seen.
